Spa Party Emery Board Cover Tutorial
How many of you ladies have ever stuck a nail file into your purse only to have it scratch the heck out of your sunglasses and phone screen? NO MORE! I created this simple emery board cover for a spa party a few years ago to make them look prettier to display on the “Beauty Bar,” but now I make them for gifts all the time because they are simple and so dang handy!

Are you ready? Ok – let’s see what we need:
- Pretty scrapbook paper that fits your spa party theme {I love Hobby Lobby for scrapbook paper online!}
- Emery boards
- Emery Board Envelope Template
- Double sided tape
- 1″ hole punch
- Writing implement
See. I said it was easy. Besides the actual nail files you probably already have everything you need to get started. I even had a big pack of those in my bottom bathroom drawer! Take a peek now and then, it’s amazing the treasures you’ll find!
Step 1 – Trace & Cut Emery Board Cover Template:
Print and cut the template, then trace onto the BACK side of your paper. You don’t want any ink to accidentally end up the front of the paper. But isn’t the back of this one pretty too? Alas, it didn’t match my spa theme.
You can use scissors but to make sure all my cuts are straight I use a paper trimmer for all the long straight cuts and the scissors for the the angles and skinny piece. It just helps make sure everything matches up nicely when folding.
Step 2 – Fold up bottom flap
Fold the bottom “neck” up to create a straight line at the bottom. It should line up at the top. You can trim down any excess if needed. Then use a bone folder to run down both sides and create a crease for the flaps.
Step 3 – Fold in side flaps
These side flap can be tricky with thicker paper and the crease you just created with your bone folder will make it much cleaner and easier. If you don’t have one – don’t fret, you can use your fingernail in a pinch to make sure your folds stay straight.
Step 4 – Fold & Tape
Now you’ve got a little envelope that looks a little something like this! I know it shows the punch already done but by the time I had everything put together I had to punch it again to get it straight. SO…please wait until the end. Trust me, I know it’s hard to wait, but once it’s taped shut I give you permission to punch away!
Then I cut a strip of double sided tape down the middle and place it on the outside of each flap. Fold over, lining the sides up as you go, and press down firmly.
Step 5 – PUNCH!
I don’t know why the punches are such a satisfying experience. It’s just so fun, I love the sound, the confetti left behind, and of course the improvement to my project at hand. I mean, I don’t know anyone who can cut a perfect circle. Or in this case – curve. I chose to trim both sides to make it easier to remove the nail file.
Step 6: Admire your Handiwork
Slide the nail file into it’s cute new emery board cover! It’s a snug fit so it doesn’t accidentally slide out while in a purse and continue to wreak havoc on your sunglasses. Introduce it to a few new friends and I’d say, my dear, you are right ready for a spa party! Or the makings of a fabulous gift for a birthday, teacher thank you, Mother’s Day, or baby shower. {who couldn’t use a little extra pampering when pregnant?}
