Healthy Shamrock Shake Ingredients
It doesn't get much easier than this. 4 ingredients. 1 blender. And you've got a delicious treat.
Recommended Equipment
- High Speed Blender {I use this blender more than any other appliance!}
- Sharp Knife
- Cutting Board
- Gold glitter plastic flutes – or ANY glass
- Mini shamrock cookie cutter
- Gold ribbons for bottom or handle of glass
Simple Ingredients
- 3 Frozen sliced bananas
- 1 cup Fresh or frozen spinach
- 1 cup Dairy-free milk {coconut is creamiest, unsweetened almond is lowest calorie}
- For a dessert version, use 1 cup of Irish Cream Dairy free creamer as the base
- 1 drop Peppermint essential oil or mint extract
Optional Garnish
- Top with non-dairy whipped cream
- Gold sprinkles
- Green apple shamrock
Frozen Bananas on Hand
The key to a creamy shake is having frozen bananas which means you can't whip this up on a whim. Unless you keep a stock of frozen bananas in the freezer like I do. As they start to brown, slice them up into a quart sized freezer bag.
Press out the air and seal them up flattening the bananas and creating as close to a single layer as possible. Then place the bag on top of a box, or on the shelf in the freezer so they freeze flat and are easy to break apart. Even a high speed blender will struggle with a solid brick of frozen banana.
Pour frozen banana slices over milk in blender.
Color Your Shamrock Shake
On top of the bananas add a large handful of spinach. I love using fresh spinach but it goes bad quickly. One of the best smoothie tips I can give is to freeze your spinach. You'll have it handy anytime you need it and it blends up perfectly.
The best part? Spinach has huge nutritional benefits, you can't taste it, it gives your shamrock shake recipe the perfect green color, and you don't have to use artificial food dyes. That sounds like a win-win for sure.
Once your shamrock shake recipe is ready, it'll only take a minute, now you can dress up your glasses if you want to!
Green Apple Shamrock Shake Garnish
Using a mini shamrock cookie cutter slice the side off of a clean green apple and cut a perfect green shamrock to garnish each glass.
Using a sharp knife cut a slit in the side of your shamrock and slide it onto your glass. Thicker glasses or mugs will require a larger slit.
Garnish Shamrock Shake with Gold
For a dessert shake: make sure to use the non-dairy creamer, Irish Cream flavor for extra points! This will create a creamier texture and adds sugar.
Add your whipped cream to the top and sprinkle with gold for the luck o' the Irish! And for a little extra fancy, cause, why the heck not!? Tie the flutes or glasses with a little gold ribbon. I'd recommend tying the ribbons on BEFORE pouring the shamrock shake. But after works in a pinch!
