Fortune Cookie Valentine Supplies

You only need a few items to create these darling and delicious Valentine treats.

  • (2) Sheets of fruit leather {makes 4}
  • Circle cutter – 2-1/2″ diameter
  • Strips of fortune messages
  • A little bowl of warm water to seal the edges

Cut Fruit Leather Circles

Double up your fruit leather sheets or your fortune cookie Valentine will collapse in on itself. Trust me….

I like putting the sticky sides together to keep them from separating. Then using your circle cutter or the top of a glass, create your circles. Make sure to cut them as close as possible to make use of all the fruit leather and get the maximum number of circles. I was able to get FOUR from this sheet with a 2-1/2″ circle cutter.

If you don't have a circle cutter, look around for a container with a smaller round opening. Regular glasses will be too large, so check your kid cups, any glass vases, or food containers.

Add Fortune Cookie Valentine Messages

A fortune cookie has to have a great fortune inside! But since these are fortune cookie Valentine's they don't need to be an actual fortune….just add a sweet message of love and encouragement for your kids. Or have your kids add nice messages for their friends.

I even had fortune cookies at my wedding! Although they were the typical crunchy cookie kind.

Since I had lots of trial and error getting the strips to be just the right size, I created a sheet of fortune cookie messages just for you. You can use my messages or edit the sheet and add your own {the right side of the page is editable!}.

Folding Your Fortune Cookie Valentine

Lay your fortune cookie message in the center and fold the circle over, but not all the way. This part is a little tricky cause you don't want to squish it down flat. While holding space in the center, gently push the two points so they come together to create the iconic fortune cookie shape.

Leave the message sticking out a bit or hide the whole thing, but I love how they look with their cute little hearts and forked tongues!

Troubleshooting Your Fortune Cookie Valentine

Once you press your points together and get the right shape, it might not want to stay. Because we used the sticky sides to glue the two sheets together the dry sides don't stay very well. Add a little warm water with your finger to the center of the circle and press them together again until the fruit leather glues itself into the proper shape. You may have to let it get gummy for a few minutes before it will stay.
