Mermaid Party Welcome
Start the party at the front door/entrance by greeting guests with a themed sign or “wreath” like this one. DIY your own for a simple, cost effective piece of decor that can be perfectly matched to your decor.
Feel free to add more decor to the entrance or porch as desired. I typically save that for the end of my party planning and add items as I have time and supplies.
DIY Under the Sea Wreath Decor
- Flat wood wreath form
- Wooden cutouts of shells, sea creatures, mermaid tails, etc. {similar option}
- Shimmery metallic paints in mermaid colors:
- Ice blue
- Amethyst
- Aquamarine
- Pearl White – to lighten the blue
- Craft foam paint brushes
- Wood glue {I love that the Gorilla glue dries clear}
- Gold glitter cardstock
- Cricut Explore Air 3 or Cricut Maker for cutting the “Welcome”
Easy Mermaid Wreath Decor Instructions:
- Paint all wood cut pieces in desired colors – I highly recommend painting each set of shapes the same color
- Glue largest pieces to the base of the wood circle form
- Overlap base pieces with smaller shapes making sure to connect all gaps in the base layer to give added strength and support.
- Cut your “welcome” phrase and glue to front
- Tie with fishing line and hang from door – not sure how to hang it? I've got the EASIEST way ever to hang wreaths from your door! Check it out {coming soon}
Mermaid Mantel Decor – Focal Point
Mermaid Shellebration Poster in the shop – additional hair and skin colors available
Using your mantel shelf or welcome table, set up a little vignette with any and all mermaid and under the sea items you can find. Start with a centerpiece sign – like our Mermaid Shellebration Poster. Flank the poster with a couple of simple vases filled with Glass gems, a few sea shells, and printed coral cutouts.
Finish the look with a few pieces of homemade seaweed hung on the back wall, ocean themed stuffed animals, and a couple of ceramic mermaid tails. Then string a paper shell banner in your party colors.
Mermaid Party Decor
IKEA has the best stuffed animals for a great price. Pick up a shark, dolphin, octopus, or whale to use as a party prop that can be gifted to the birthday girl after the party! Or you can order them too.
Shop your house for sea related items. The metal caged lantern {above} looks like something that might be used on an old ship.
I created the banner in our party colors using my Cricut. I don't have it in my shop but if you're interested in getting one, please contact me and I can make a custom order just for you.
DIY Jellyfish make another great piece of decor to fill the empty corners of your space. I'll create a post on how to make these cuties soon!
Get the Look:
- Mermaid Shellebration Poster 20×30

- Stuffed dolphin and Beluga whale
- Custom shell banner

Mermaid Table Birthday Party Decor
For a beautiful mermaid table you want to add lots of texture, and it doesn't have to be complicated. Using an iridescent aqua sequin table cover overlaid with an Iridescent white sequin table runner you get the feeling of shimmery mermaid tails. Adding the fishing net runner over the top gives a little more depth, but also a warning to watch where you swim! 😉
Start collecting bottles in shades of blue, teal, and smoke to use as the centerpiece, or use your clear glass bottles and spruce them up with a little blue glass paint. Sprinkle the runner with real seashells, topping the larger bottles with a shell instead of a cork. Then, add a little more dimension with some glass vases filled with colored sea glass.
Finally, sprinkle the lot with Mermaid colored confetti!
Mermaid Table Centerpiece
The star of the table of course, is our plush mermaid. She fit perfectly in a small fish bowl vase with more glass beads and a few more shells. My daughter is a red head so we opted for the classic Ariel look, but you can find plush mermaids in many different hair and skin color options now.
The custom Mermaid colored confetti is created by my friend Brenda at Festive Fetti. You can give her your color palette and she will create a beautiful custom mix for you. Just make sure to give her plenty of time to complete your custom order!
Keep an eye out for inexpensive bottles. These nautical ones were at Dollar Tree a few summers ago. But don't forget my budget tip to use your clear glass bottles {save all your glass food containers} and spruce them up with a little blue glass paint. Then tie them up with some twine and a nautical ornament.
Using Dollar Tree glass candle holders you can create a fun ocean inspired look. Fill the vase with sea glass filler and use a Dollar Tree Christmas “tree” ornament upside down in the glass to look like coral. Or choose this faux coral decor meant for fish tanks.

Mermaid Table Place Settings
We alternated the place settings with 2 different designs. I wanted to incorporate the mermaid plates from my sweet friend Lynette of Craft my Occasion. She has since lost the battle to cancer and we miss her dearly. Her shop is now closed but I loved including her products in this party to encourage girls of all colors to be their best mermaid selves!
Even with the new live action Little Mermaid there still aren't a lot of plates showing African American mermaids available, but Lynette was the first.
For a finishing touch add a mermaid tail to each of your guest chairs!
