Brainy Mad Science Party Cupcakes

Mad Science Party Cupcakes are the perfect addition to a science birthday party but especially great when you're hosting a Halloween party for kids! There are so many fun experiments and activities to keep them busy. But a favorite activity is the “brain dissection cupcake”. Make a batch of these and let the kids cut into them like real scientists!

We're still going strong on the 13 Days of Halloween and we've got Halloween cupcake ideas for you today!

Mad Science Party Cupcake Ingredients

Step 1: Make or Purchase Cupcakes

I'm not a baker by any stretch and it stresses me out when things don't work out so I often purchase my cupcakes now from a local bakery. If you like baking try out this recipe from Live Well Bake Often. EVERYONE raves about it.

Walmart even carries a line of Kimberly's Bakeshoppe cupcakes that are pretty darn good for a quick party treat.

Step 2: Create Chocolate Brains

Chocolate Mold Instructions

  • Melt the white chocolate disks by microwaving them in 30 second bursts, stirring in between

  • Tint chocolate by adding a few drops of red food coloring and a few drops of green to create a grayed pink color

  • Gel coloring is really strong so be VERY careful when adding it to your chocolate
    • If you accidentally add too much color just melt additional disks and stir them in
  • Lightly apply a very thin coat of coconut oil to inside of molds
  • Spoon or pipe tinted melted chocolate into brain molds and smooth with a spoon
  • Let cool in fridge for an hour or more
  • To release, dip bottom of mold into a pan of warm water for a few seconds and turn over on to wax paper

Step 3: Add Pipettes

The pipettes are totally optional but add a little extra fun. And if you choose to use them prepare the pipettes while your brains are cooling by squeezing out the air and filling them up with the raspberry sauce.

Once full set them aside, bulb side down so they don't leak.

Step 4: Add Mad Science Party Cupcake Wrappers

Now here's a shameless plug for my Mad Science Printable Party Decor! You can purchase the whole value bundle {as shown} or individual pieces like the cupcake wrappers.

Download your file, then print and cut your cupcake wrappers and tape into place. For our party I mixed both colors for a fun blue and purple color scheme.

Step 5: Top and Serve

Add the chocolate brain toppers and insert the pipette into the cupcakes. Then see if the guests are brave enough to try out the raspberry syrup! It's not brain surgery but it's still a little creepy!

Mix It Up With Mad Science Party Printables

You can alternate cupcakes with printed science toppers {also available in the shop} as well then provide guests with some fun sprinkles to decorate their own.

I hope you've enjoyed this easy cupcake DIY. We sure had a great time with them at our Mad Science party! I'd love to know if you try these out on your own.
