Construction Party Sources
I designed a construction themed party for my son's 3rd birthday and it went off without a hitch! You can check out the full size party pics here and our construction party menu ideas here. I am a planner and tend to start designing a party 6 months in advance. {I'm crazy like that.} I definitely planned ahead but with all my Construction Party sources gathered at your fingertips…you might not have to!
Construction Party Decor:
This post contains affiliate links for Amazon. For more information please see my disclosure page. I LOVE Amazon and use them regularly for my party supplies. {And everything else in my life!} I have only listed items that I ACTUALLY used, or alternative items that I considered but ended up not purchasing. {Because at the end of the day you've just got to stop buying stuff!}
Front Door “wreath”:
- Orange extension cord: We already had this but they come in SUPER handy, so get one if you don't, Home Depot
- Cord management: Home depot
- “Caution Party in Progress” & “3” Signs: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
Porch Decor:
- Skinny saw horse: Home depot
- Latex Balloons in Orange, Yellow & Black : Zurchers
- “Construction Zone” Mylar balloon: Oriental trading {pack of 3}
- “One Way” & “Drake's Construction Crew” signs: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- 1000′ Caution Tape: Home Depot {1000′ is really long but I chose not to worry about running out. We used nearly all of it outside: down the driveway, across the fence, in front of the equipment, etc. If you're only using it inside there's a 200′ roll option from Home Depot as well}
Mantle Décor:
- Mini-Caution Cones: Target Dollar Spot {Purchased in Spring}
- Latex Balloons in Orange, Yellow & Black : Zurchers
- “Dump Gifts Here” sign: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- Big Rig Party Garland: Meri Meri, Amazon
- Under Construction graphic {free printable}: Vecteezy
- Silver RIBBA 19 3/4″ x 27 1/2″ Frame: IKEA {no longer available in silver, alternative – SILVERHOJDEN}
Invitation:
- Big Rig Party Invitations: Meri Meri, Amazon {no longer available in the US, alternative invite on Etsy}
Food “Tools”:
- Yellow napkins: Amazon
- Orange cutlery: Zurchers, but if you don't have a party store close by you can find some on Amazon
- Food Zone sign: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- Tools wrappers {free printable}: Oriental trading
- “Dig In” Construction Zone Dessert plates: Oriental Trading
- Big Rig Dinner plates: Meri Meri, Amazon
- Fueling Station sign: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- Galvanized Metal Beverage Tub: Amazon {These sweat when filled with ice, line with plastic or you will get water all over!}
- Water bottle wrappers: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- “Fuel” Juice box graphic {free printable}: Big Red Clifford via Color Me Meg
Additional beverage idea:
- Cone drinking cup with straw: Oriental Trading {These would be perfect for a “Cars” themed party as well!}
Food Table Accessories:
- “Sweet Break” sign & Food labels: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- Barrier cups: Orange cups {Amazon} wrapped with white electrical tape, Office Depot
- 3-Tiered Kvittera serving platter: IKEA
- Big Rig cupcake kit: Meri Meri, Amazon
- Clear paint container: Michaels
- Condiment squeeze tubes: Target Dollar Spot {Purchased at the start of Summer}
- Wooden sticks for hot dogs and wooden “ice cream” spoons for rice crispy paint brushes: Michaels
- Peg board backdrop: Home Depot {Only buy this if you can use it somewhere afterwards cause it's expensive just for a prop. My hubby installed it in the garden shed, post party}
To see how all the food came together check out our Construction Party Menu post.
- Construction Cake: Smashcakes, Allie Koppe
- Cone candles: Amazon or Birthday Express {The Birthday Express candles are cuter but cost more once you pay shipping. If you are going to order a large amount ($75) you can get free shipping.}
- Construction Trucks: Dollar Tree
- “Dig In” signs: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
- 1000′ Caution Tape: Home Depot
Favor Table:
- Yellow hard hats: Oriental Trading, potentially lower price on Amazon
- Pink hard hats: Oriental Trading
- Full sheet labels: Avery, Amazon {I use these ALL the time to make my own labels in any size and shape. I added each child's name to their hard hat}
- 1000′ Caution Tape: Home Depot
- Hard Hat sign & Large construction cut outs: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
Favors:
I had such a fun time putting these favors together. Home Depot does free workshops for children each month. If you request to speak with their workshop/event/charity person, they will likely {but not always, so be super extra nice!} hook you up with FREE aprons! I even got a box of the children's woodworking project for that month which included FREE foam paint brushes. Afterwards I realized the woodworking project was too involved for my 3 year old guest list {guilt!} so I donated them to my local cub scout troop.
- Employee Aprons: Home Depot {try to score these for free!}
- Large contractor pencil: Home Depot {But you will need to sharpen all of them before putting in the apron.}
- Tiny 6′ tape measure: Home Depot
- Foam brush: Home Depot
- Construction themed lacing boards: Dollar Tree
- Favor tags: Cupcake Express, Etsy
Additional favor ideas:
- Canvas Tool Belt: Home Depot {If you can't score the aprons these are a great alternative. They are only $0.77)
- Tote Bag: Home Depot {This is another option if the tool belts are too large for your guests. $1.70 but go on sale}
- Tool shaped squirt toys: Oriental Trading
- Construction tool gummy candy: Oriental Trading
- Tool cookie cutters: Amazon {These are an alternative to the toys which can be expensive but still look cute in the tool belt. You can gift the cutters themselves, or if you have a talent with icing, you can make and package tool cookies!}
Hammering Station:
- Work zone vests: Oriental Trading
- Hard foam blocks: Dollar Tree {not the green floral foam “Oasis”, it's too soft}
- Wood grained contact paper: Amazon {I ended up using 3 rolls but it covered a lot of blocks!}
- Wooden lobster/crab mallets: Webstaurant {These were WAY less money than any kind of hammer}
- Full sheet labels: Amazon {Used the same labels as the hard hats to personalize the mallets}
- Golf tees: Walmart
- Diamond Plate table cover: Oriental Trading
- “Danger-Construction Site” sign: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
Demolition Station:
- Tether Ball: Walmart, but this one is less expensive {dang!} on Amazon
- Duct tape: Home depot
- Roll Kraft paper: Amazon {Originally got this roll for a Christmas party dinner 2 years ago! LOVE this stuff. It's so versatile and has lasted for several events!}
- “Caution Disaster Area” sign: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy
Excavation Station:
- Bubbles: Dollar Tree
- Buckets & Shovels: Dollar Tree
- Army Trucks: Dollar Tree
- Construction Trucks: Dollar Tree
- “Dig in” sign: Amanda's Parties to Go, Etsy {Print oversized signs at any office store, ask for an engineering print. I mounted finished signs to foam core.}
- Sand pit is a Horse water trough: IFA
- Clean sand: Home Depot
