Let's Avo Fiesta
With an avocado themed fiesta you better believe avocados are going to make a splash on the menu! Did you know Mexico is the larger grower of avocados in the world? Pretty cool right?
So even though these stuffed baked avocados aren't traditionally Mexican, we'll let it slide as an homage to Mexican agriculture!
Mini Tostada Food for Cinco de Mayo
Tostadas are always a favorite with fresh veggies over beans and cheese. We even made our own tostada shells using a Dash Mini Waffle Bowl Maker. It's totally not necessary but so much fun! Find out how easy it is to make your own tostadas here.
Cinco de Mayo Party Food – “Elote” Street Corn
Elote is a Mexican corn on the cob that's pretty much to die for! Grilled on the BBQ instead of boiled, these ears of corn are then rubbed with a mayo and Mexican crema mixture and sprinkled with Cotija, ancho chili powder, and cilantro. It's an incredible flavor combination and you can get the Mexican corn on the cob recipe here.
Traditional Food for Cinco de mayo
If you're looking for more traditional foods for Cinco de Mayo you might want to consider a street taco bar with carne asada {beef}, al pastor {pork}, and chicken for a wide range of flavors. Just make sure to also serve salsa in molcajete bowls!
Tamales are another great traditional food. I suggest you purchase these however, as they are tough to make! Chicken tamales rounded out or dinner plate quite nicely.
Beverages for Cinco de Mayo
For a family dinner choose a non-alcoholic margarita that's super easy to make! Just toss limeade, lemon juice, orange juice, and ice into the blender then serve it with sparkling water, garnished with lime and a salted rim of course!
Another amazing Mexican inspired drink is our non-alcoholic sangria. It's awesome for a Day of the Dead celebration but works for any Mexican fiesta and Cinco de Mayo.
Desserts for Cinco de Mayo
You can go with traditional Mexican desserts like churros, flan, and tres leches.
Or cheat and try this amazing Fried Ice Cream without the frying! Fried ice cream isn't a Mexican treat, it's an American creation but since Cinco de Mayo is basically an American celebration…..it seems fitting, And I love that this decadent sweet treat is better for you than the original.
