A monster lab decor kit makes a simple Halloween centerpiece for a mad science party

Simple Halloween Centerpiece Activity

If you've been around here long you'll know how much I LOOOOVE Halloween! In that spirit I plan a party every year and this year we needed a simple Halloween centerpiece for my Mad Science Halloween Party. I was thrilled to find these DIY kits for fun 3D Halloween scenes at Michael's. This post is not sponsored by Michael's, I just wanted to share this fun and easy activity with all of you.

Mad Science Monster Lab

  • Project Difficulty: EASY
  • Time Allotted: 45 min adult, 100 min child

How cute is this Frankenstein inspired scene? Complete with mad science lab and the ever present Halloween black cat!

Foam pieces from a simple Halloween centerpiece

The pieces are all made of thick foam and I was a little worried at first at the sheer volume of 74 pieces. The box recommends the project for 6+ and that it will take 100 minutes. For a child I think that is about right, but I finished it in 45 minutes. Not counting a little trouble at the end.

Assembly instructions for a simple Halloween centerpiece activity

The instructions are super simple and completely illustrated which, as a visual learner, I love! All the pieces are listed at the beginning and then it just sort of walks you through each step piece by piece.

The stickers are the finishing touch to really make it pop. These guys are just too fun!

It's ALIVE with a monster lab decor kit for a simple Halloween centerpieceWhen it's all assembled the Frankenstein on the slab actually moves which left my son enthralled!

What I learned: My only issue is the pom poms don't stick very well with the double sided tape. Also I tied the orange string instead of sticking it to the tape and it ended up being a little taut. Don't put the lightning bolts on until you are done stringing because they have a tendency to roll over on you.

Super Dog Chihuahua

  • Project Difficulty: EASY
  • Time Allotted: 20 min adult, 45 min child

I also have to show this one off! The kits were on sale buy one get one 50% off so my 8 year old daughter picked up a chihuahua. The Super Dog 3D Structure Kit by Creatology has fewer pieces in larger sizes and was perfect for her.

She completed the kit over the course of a few days but I don't think it took longer than the recommended 45 minutes overall. She was able to assemble it alone with ZERO assistance from me {which is awesome!} making this the best Halloween centerpiece idea for older kids ever.

This little guy now sits on our kitchen counter with his cute bobble head {it's on an actual spring} bridging the gap between our Black Cat Halloween and Day of the Dead decor.
