Let's Party Like Picasso – Art Party
I may have gone a bit crazy for my daughter's 8th birthday party you guys! Last years Movie Star Party was fun but low key….this Party Like Picasso art celebration was completely over-the-top! And we loved every minute of it! Which is why I'm so excited that it's included in the Spring Party Blog Hop this year! Please join me in hopping through all 8 of the awesome Spring parties featured in our hop today. If you're coming over from Sarina's Swan party at Joy in the Commonplace, I'm so glad to have you! Isn't that just a gorgeous theme!?
Springtime parties often contain vibrant color to shake off the bleakness of winter. Adding color to my life since the moment she was born, an art party was an absolute must do for my little artist.

Party Like Picasso Invitations
I love masters like Van Gogh, Da Vinci, and Monet but wanted this party to have a clean and modern take, so artists Paublo Picasso and Jackson Pollack were immediately added to the guest list! And what better way to celebrate creativity than to Party like Picasso!? I'm in love with all the watercolor lately so the purple splash of paint was perfect in the Party Like Picasso invitations. Also note the Pollack-esque splatter paint design on the back! I love that detail.
Rainbow Colors Everywhere!
I usually try to stick with just a couple of focal points and always caution against the urge to decorate the whole house. While I didn't decorate the whole house, I certainly decorated our entire Great Room! While I absolutely did not need all the details, I've been planning this party for 18 months and had way too many ideas to keep it simple!
Art Party Tablescape
You know I love a great table design and this one was no exception. It doesn't have to be expensive to be fabulous either as I started with a plastic table cover and a dollar store wrapping paper runner. I do love the colorful centerpieces of dyed popcorn kernels, and if you are wondering how to do it you can check it out at DIY Art Party Decor. Every great artist needs tool and if you're gonna party like Picasso a mini easel and colored pencils were a must!
There are so many details that I love but one of my favorites are these paint palette dessert plates! They are my original art party inspiration!
Art Party Food Table
A colorful food table is a must for an art party and this one is no exception. I'm in love with hexagons and created this colorful backdrop to set the tone. Want to know more? I tell you how I did the backdrop in this DIY Art Party Decor post! But the simple rainbow colored palette garland is a sweet detail that can be found in my Halfpint Party Design Etsy shop right now.
Finishing touches like framed artwork, an artist mannequin, and ceramic crayons made the table extra fun.
Art Party Menu
To Party like Picasso what kind of food do you eat? COLORFUL food of course! Rainbow kabobs were number one on my list of must haves. I'm a big fan of healthy but fun party foods and these totally fit the bill. Since the party was from 3-5pm all we needed were after school snacks to keep the girls' creativity flowing.
And nothing's better as an after school snack than goldfish crackers! Especially when they come in so many fun colors! And I love that they don't use any artificial dyes. {not sponsored, my family just loves them!}
My kids will eat a ton of vegetables if they have a little ranch and are hungry. So I try to sneak them in as often as I can. These heirloom carrots and tomatoes in mixed colors are perfect for any Spring party. {I find them at Trader Joe's if you're wondering}
But since it IS a party you have to have a couple of treats! My daughter helped make these darling Rainbow Skittle paint brushes!
And no party would be complete without a Jeisy's Events and Creations cookie! I know she's my friend, BUT not only are the cookies amazingly detailed {do you see the bristles on the paint brush?} but they taste GOOD. I've had way too many “pretty” cookies that were like biting cardboard. These are soft and yummy. Give her a shout on Etsy at Jeisy's Events and she'll whip up cookies for any theme you can imagine!
Watercolor Rainbow Drip Cake
Now does a watercolor rainbow drip cake sound too good to be true!? Alicia Case totally blew my mind with this beauty!! And the colorful candles were the perfect finish. I almost added her name to the top but decided against it. I love how clean it is. So we decorated the Amalfi Decor cake plate instead! The letters are so easy and fun to do and you can find out how on DIY Art Party Decor.
A cake this colorful on the outside needed some color on the inside. Pudding filled Funfetti cake was a specially requested by the birthday girl, as was mint chip ice cream. {she gets her good taste from her mother!} Needless to say we were licking our plates clean!
Creative Juices
This “Creative Juices” drink bar is definitely a favorite. Izzy is a nickname for my sweet Isadora, and Izze sodas have featured in every celebration since her birth. We added the Jones sodas to round out our palette and added the beverage labels from the Party Like Picasso Printable Decor Package on Etsy to cover the funny photos. {They worked great for the water bottles as well!}
Birthday Mantel Design
The mantel felt so bare after Valentines Day that a birthday pick me up was in order. Simple banners and a beautiful fabric and paintbrush garland finish it off quite nicely. I customized a Rainbow Highchair banner from EIEIO Designs on Etsy, and it was the perfect touch! If you want to know behind the scenes you can find this garland at DIY Art Party Decor as well.
Party Favors Worthy of Picasso
I'm going to end with a quick photo of the favor table. These were so fun and need more explanation but since you started reading this post at breakfast and it's now lunchtime, I think I'd better save that for another day. I hope you enjoyed our Party like Picasso and it inspired your inner artist. Come back soon to check out all the fun DIY's and creative art party activities. Until then, grab a sandwich and keep hopping! Your next stop is the Frenzied Hostess with a darling April Showers Bring May Flowers party. I hope you come away inspired, not overwhelmed. Just PIN it all for later!

Wow! This post’s inspired me to throw a party like this “just because!” Of course there will be wine involved! Love it!
I love this theme. How cute!
Love this party so much! This makes me want to throw an art party and we don’t even have a birthday coming up!
Very cute theme, love the backdrop!
My kids would be thrilled to attend this amazing party! Looks beautiful, Bri!
As always, your parties make me wish I were turning 8 and you would throw me a party!!
Love this idea! I used to paint, so I wouldn’t mind this for my own party.
This is fabulous! Also, definitely over the top, like you said. It made me tired just thinking about hosting that party LOL
Could not love this more. My husband is an artist and my girls both love everything to do with art. So, definitely pinned to keep in mind for art birthday party ideas now for them 🙂
I LOVE this party and it has totally inspired me to throw an art party especially since my boys love to paint and color.
The backdrop, the table scape, the rainbow food, you’re amazing!! Love it all, well done Bri!
I love all these colors and I’m going to blatantly steal this decor. Lol. But, I need it to be for adults and toddlers. Do you have any ideas for colorful centerpieces that wouldn’t be a choking hazard? We plan to put the kiddos on the ground, but just in case something gets knocked over.
This party is adorable ! Can we talk about that backdrop too ! Amazing bri ! You’re so talented
That backdrop is AMAZING!! Love all what you did on this party!!
Oh Bri, this is wonderful! I love all the colors, the palettes, the aprons on the chairs the “creative juices” everything!! So fun and so creative!!
Bri, this party is amazing! So colorful and it looks like the kids must have had a blast!
Oh my goodness! Your party is adorable. I love how much detail you put into this.. The colors are just vibrant!
