Monster Truck Party Activity Ideas
Getting the party ready is the first hurdle. Keeping a group of wild boys engaged and out of trouble for 2 hours is the next! Brainstorming with my son we came up with a whole list of Monster Truck Party Activity ideas and whittled it down to FIVE stations. He loves everything that goes, especially the thundering roar, crazy tricks, and smashing destruction of a monster truck! You can see the whole indoor party set up on our Monster Truck Birthday Party Smash. But here's a little peek of our Winner's Circle:

Monster Truck Party Activity Stations
For outdoors, we set up FIVE different activity stations. Each station was marked with checkered pennant flags and a sign to identify the activity. All signage is now available on the shop!
Did you know that Parties With A Cause is producing party printables!? It's so exciting!! Everything you need for a great party all in one place.
Station 1: Pop a Wheelie
I think the “Pop a wheelie” station might have been the favorite! It definitely was the first activity guests wanted to do!
To Create this station:
- I used a horse water trough to hold all the balloons! {it also works as a sand pit and doggy swimming pool!}
- Checkered pennant flags, Oriental Trading
- Checkered Duct Tape, Amazon
- White 11″ Latex Balloons, Oriental Trading
- Pop a Wheelie Sign, PartiesWithACause on Etsy
- Cricut Explore Air
- Black and Orange Vinyl, Cricut
It was hot so the balloons stretched and were harder to pop, but I think that added to the fun! I made 24 balloons and each child was able to pop THREE! I simply cut out tire shapes on my Cricut Explore Air in orange and black vinyl and added them to the balloons. The vinyl sticker didn't love adhering to the round balloons but I was able to get most of the bubbles out with my fingernail!
Station 2: Hole Shot
The “Hole Shot” activity was a challenging one for the 5 year old crowd. The goal is to toss a ball through the open hole of a huge inflatable tire. We chose to hang two at different heights from our swing set. I used plastic “baseballs” and they did a pretty good job but I think whiffle balls might be easier to throw.
Create this station:
- Checkered pennant flags, Oriental Trading
- Large inflatable tires, Amazon
- Plastic “baseballs” from Dollar Tree or Whiffle balls, Amazon
- Hole Shot sign, PartiesWithACause on Etsy
It took a few tries but they got the hang of it and had fun slam dunking a few too! A backdrop is recommended for any throwing activity unless you want to run after balls the whole party! Luckily ours was set against the back fence. For an older crowd slowly spin the tires for an added challenge!
Station 3: Monster Truck Wash
Summer parties are hot, way too hot, so I worry about having outdoor activities. Adding the “Monster truck wash” gave our party goers a chance to cool off between races. We simply installed mister hoses to our monkey bars in a big rectangle and attached it to the garden hose. It was a perfect solution and the kids ran back and forth several times between stations to stay cool. The mist is fine enough to lower your temp but not get you wet. The perfect balance!
Sadly I missed all the action shots. Which is another reminder to HAVE SOMEONE ELSE IN CHARGE of taking photos. I did NOT follow my own advice on this one and missed so many great photo ops while I was setting out the food.
Create this station:
- Checkered pennant flags, Oriental Trading
- Mister Hoses, Lowe's but it's hard to find after summer starts so you can also get it on Amazon
- Monster Truck Wash Sign, PartiesWithACause on Etsy
Station 4: Monster Truck Bowling
Monster Truck bowling! The birthday boy's rock crawler from Santa last Christmas was the inspiration for this whole thing. What better way to celebrate than incorporate the truck into the activity!? Driving a remote controlled monster truck into the pins was great fun for everyone!! Although, since there was only one truck they had to take turns. Next time I think I'd borrow another remote controlled truck so we had two active lanes. It also took a minute to set the pins up but they sure enjoyed knocking them down again, and again, and again!
Party in the FAST lane!
We created a “lane” using checkered duct tape with checkered flags as the backdrop. The pins were light plastic and easy to knock down but none of them were damaged, so for the price they were perfect! Only using 6 pins made repeated set up much quicker.
Create this station:
- Checkered pennant flags, Oriental Trading
- Checkered Duct Tape, Amazon
- Monster Truck Bowling Sign, PartiesWithACause on Etsy
- Plastic Bowling set, Amazon
- Rock Crawler Remote Controlled Monster Truck, Amazon
For a boy that takes his truck apart and changes the batteries every other day, a missing battery cover proved to be the only downside when encountering obstacles and flipping over backwards! He patiently put them back in each time but I took pity and duct taped them in! It was his birthday after all!
Station 5: Head to Head Racing!
What's a Monster Truck Jam with out a race? The contestants are ready….all lined up and waiting for their chance to prove themselves during our last station: the head to head racing challenge.
The monster truck races were a hit! See how easy they were to make? Two gutters from Home Depot, clamped together on a riser. Add some signage and you've got yourself a race track!
Create this station:
- Rain gutters, Home Depot
- Plastic spring clamps, Amazon
- Monster Truck toys, Dollar Tree
- Checkered pennant flags, Oriental Trading
- Checkered Duct Tape, Amazon
- Starting Line and Finish Line Signage, PartiesWithACause on Etsy
- Head to Head Racing Sign, PartiesWithACause on Etsy
I do have to show off my riser because it was pretty dang cute! A retro dump truck on top of an antique grain sifter I found in my neighbor's garage! {see what else I got, here!} This Tonka truck was my husband's favorite toy as a boy and featured prominently in baby photos and our son's Construction Birthday Party. I love that it helped serve as a judge for the races.
For the Finish
This Monster truck party was such a hit. The kids loved all the party activities, especially my girly girl daughter. Just goes to show there's no boy stuff or girl stuff…just awesome KID stuff! Party activities can make or break the event. You need something constructive for these boys to do or they tend to get destructive! Which Monster Truck party activity is your favorite?
If you have a future Monster Truck party please let us share your event and show off all your hard work!

This is so cute! Thanks for the ideas! The pop a wheelie game, what did they try to pop it with?
So sorry for the delay – I’ve been traveling. I had them sit on the balloons to pop them. But you could have them stomp on them or use a car tool instead.
Wow! You are a fount of ideas! I wish I lived closer to you to have you organize our kids’ parties! 🙂
