Do you know how to get personalized gifting right? Meaningful gifting is something I struggle with and am thrilled to have a gifting expert on the blog today to share with you some pointers in selecting the perfect gift. Let our gifts show we care, especially if we can't hand it over it in person.

Get Personalized Gifting Right

The average American spent over $1050 on gifts alone last year, according to estimates from the National Retail Federation. When it comes to the most desired gifts on the market, 62 percent of them said they would prefer a personalized gift over something generic worth $100. This comes as no surprise since, with every glance at gifting websites and retailers, personalization continues to be the dominant trend. In jewelry, sleepwear, and even party decor, more consumers are embracing the individuality that personalized gifting provides – and the special touch it adds to their gifts and party favors. Whether you're looking for the perfect gift for your husband or simply looking to show your appreciation to a loved one, personalization is certainly an option to consider if you are looking to make it special.

What Personalization Adds To The Gifting Experience

There is an age-old saying that a gift should be all about the person and not the present. Personalization allows givers to add another level of intimacy and thoughtfulness to their chosen gift. It is a great way to make your loved one feel special by gifting them with a gift that is completely unique to them, your relationship with them, and the message you want to convey. However, like all gifts, you must take care to get it right. It's not just about the personalization; it's about the person and the present.

Think Of The Receiver’s Personality

A golden rule when choosing a gift is to use the receiver’s personality to guide you in your choices. Almost 46 percent of consumers return one to three gifts, mainly due to their suitability, according to research by Optoro in 2019. According to the study, too many of us focus on eliciting the reaction rather than considering what the recipient would find useful or sentimental. In fact, most givers prefer to give a more superficial gift, even though recipients appreciate a sentimental or personalized gift more. To get personalized gifting right, think of the recipient’s habits and interests. Do they like minimal jewelry or have a penchant for trying new things? In this case, gifting them with a recurring delivery of curated products to match their tastes would make for a personal gift.

Choose Personalization With Relevant Meaning Behind It

People are always excited to receive a gift. However, if you want to succeed in giving one, it needs to be thoughtful. Choosing a gift with a meaning behind it shows the recipient you have spent time thinking about their preferences, wishes and any memories you have of them. Personalization is a great way to add this to a gift. A personalized gift can turn a gift you think they will like into something made specifically for them or into a reminder of good memories, such as inscribed baby shower favors. This way every time they look at it, they are reminded of a lovely memory.

Always Choose Quality Over Quantity When Personalizing

Personalized gifts can rarely be regifted. In fact, that is central to the theme – making it unique and special for the receiver rather than choosing a gift that is one of a million. Therefore, when choosing a personalized gift, you want to spend enough time choosing an option you think the intended receiver would like – and one that will last. Poorly made personalized jewelry or corporate gifts fail to make as much of an impact if they disintegrate or snap after a few days.

Personalized gifting is a great way to show someone you care and can be just the thing you need to add an extra layer of sparkle to the gifting experience. However, this can only happen if you tick all the right boxes with your gift by taking into consideration your recipient’s preferences, placing thought into your choice, and choosing something of quality. Otherwise, it ends up being no different than any other gift.

Taking the time to think of the person and what they would like is key. But looking in their Amazon gift list is not too bad either 🙂

It’s really nice to make someone feel special by really thinking about what they need and want isn’t it? I’ve received way too many gifts for items I don’t need and always feel bad.

I do too. It’s hard sometimes for people to know exactly what you do need. I love having a public amazon wish list for times like those.
