Harry Potter Party Invitations Insert
First comes the envelope. You have a couple options here:
- Print the template on White Card Stock with the digital parchment paper texture file
- OR use the template as a pattern to trace and cut the envelopes out of real parchment paper
- OR if you have a Cricut, use the Harry Potter Invite Envelope file here to machine cut each envelope. Just print a full page of the parchment pattern for cutting so it matches the inserts. {included in the invitation listing}
Once cut, score along the dashed lines with a butter knife or Bone Folder, and fold all four flaps to the center.
Then comes the insert. This insert is available in several options. Whether it's:
- Your Birthday Party
- Harry's Birthday Party
- Halloween Feast or Halloween Party
- Yule Ball {Christmas party}
- or the OWL Examinations {think graduation party}
You can find an invitation insert for any celebration! And the great news is all 6 options are available in a single listing. BUT if you can't find it, let me know, and I'll create one for you!
Just choose your event and edit your details. It's as simple as that. Then print and cut the inserts and paste them into your folded envelopes.
How to Make a Wax Seal
The wax seal is the most difficult part, but I promise it's not that tough. To get started you'll want to trace the seal on a piece of paper so you know how large your puddle of wax needs to be. Otherwise they'll be different sizes and won't always fit the full design.
Hogwarts Official Seal
Once you have your circles drawn, tape down that sheet and cover it with a piece of wax paper. I recommend you tape that sheet down as well.
Using your glue gun, add the red wax sticks and allow it to heat up. If you've used the glue gun before there will be a few “practice seals” that will have some clear glue mixed in. Wait until you've got solid red wax and start filling in your first circle.
You want to do one at a time as the wax cools quickly. As soon as you've completed a wax circle, press the seal firmly on top until the wax squishes out the sides a bit. But be careful not to push all the way through to the paper. This results in a thin seal that may crack or be seen through in parts.
Harry Potter Invitation Seals
Continue drawing circles and pushing on the seal until you've completed a page. How long this takes will depend on how many invitations you plan to send. It took about 15 minutes to create great 20 seals.
None of them will be a perfect circle but that's part of what I love about them. You could do each one on the envelopes, but this method allows for mess ups without ruining a full invitation.
Once your seals are cool, carefully peel them off the wax paper. It's okay if it sticks a little, just peel it off so nothing shows and use a little more hot glue/wax to adhere your seal to the outside of the envelope.
Keep going until you run out of envelopes, or wax. Then be prepared to clean out your glue gun by pressing a full clear glue stick through, or just plan on using it with the red tinged glue if the glue won't be seen on your project.
Now you're ready to add the address and send them off. The wax seals can no longer be mailed and will need to be hand canceled which costs a little extra. So please check with your local post office before buying stamps. Or if it's an intimate gathering you can have them delivered by Owl Post…aka. hand delivered to the doorstep.
Or we have a printable wax seal sticker page available in the SHOP if you'd like to drop them in the OWL Post.
