Halloween Books for Kids Ultimate List

Halloween books for kids are SO FUN to explore. I happen to be a book collector but you can use this list order up some great stories from the library too.

I've divided the books up by age group but there's a pretty wide range for lots of these stories so whether you've got a reluctant or advanced reader you can go up and down the list with confidence that there's some GREAT reading for everyone!

You'll also notice there are a few symbols, here's what they're for:

  • 👍 {KID FAVORITE} – these are best sellers or my own children's favorite Halloween books
  • {TEACHER'S PICK} – these have been selected by teachers across the country on Amazon
  • 🏆 {CALDECOTT or NEWBERY WINNER} – there aren't very many with these prestigious awards but it's a sure sign of a great book. Caldecott: The “Most Distinguished American Picture Book for Children” for that year of publication. Newbery: The “Most distinguished American Children's Book” for the previous year of publication.

Halloween Books for Preschool

Halloween books for Preschoolers

These happen to be the perfect Halloween books for Babies all the way up to preschool too! With fun sounds, interactive pages, and bright illustrations, your little one will love these books during the “not-so-spooky season”.

There's some overlap here too. Don't discount the younger books for older kids and vice versa. Many of these titles are still great Halloween Books for Preschool and Kindergarten but have enough storyline that they'll appeal to slightly older kids as well.

This seems to be the age group most targeted by authors – large beautifully illustrated Halloween books for kids who can now read some of the words or perfect books to read aloud.

Halloween Books for Kids {3rd-4th Grade}

Halloween books for kids in 3rd and 4th grade

This list again can go up and down depending on your child. There's nothing too scary in here but the books get more fun as kids are able to read independently.

Now we're getting a little bit older. Fun spooky chapter books that'll keep kids entertained and engaged. These also make great chapter book read alouds or audio book time {if available}.

Halloween Books for Tween

There are LOTS of books in the previous section that also are great for Tweens. They just start at age 7 or 8 which puts them in the 3rd/4th grade category. That doesn't mean your tween won't also love them too!

We listen to the Raven read by Glenn Beck under a blanket every Halloween! It's pretty spooky but even my younger kids love it.
