Gluten Free Cheese Ball Instructions
Blend your room temperature {softened} Neufchatel cream cheese and chèvre goat cheese with your mixer until smooth.
CHEESE OPTIONS: If the goat cheese is too strong for you or your family, try the more mild feta, or even shredded cheddar cheese that kids will probably enjoy a little more.
DAIRY FREE OPTION: It seems a little crazy that a CHEESEball could be make without any actual cheese. But I'm here to tell you that I've made this recipe using Kite Hill Almond Cream Cheese and Vegan Feta and it turned out SO WELL. In fact, SHHHH don't tell my hubby because he honestly didn't notice a difference.
Add Gluten Free Cheese Ball Spices
*GLUTEN FREE: If you've got a gluten free member of the family you might already know that Worcestershire sauce is often made with barley based malt vinegar and/or soy sauce which both contain gluten. If you didn't, now you know.
There are a few Worcestershire sauces on the market however that are gluten free like:
- Lea and Perrins Original (US products only)
- French's Worcestershire Sauce
Use your newly acquired Worcestershire knowledge to confidently add it to your recipe! Mix up your spices and add them to your cheese mixture.
Easy Diced Sun Dried Tomatoes
Do you love sun dried tomatoes as much as I do? I've been so excited to try this sun dried tomato cheeseball.
PRO TIP: My absolute favorite tip for sun dried tomatoes is to use kitchen shears for cutting the tomatoes into strips, then again into pieces. It's so much easier than using a knife. {I also use the kitchen shears for fresh rosemary and basil}
Once diced fold tomatoes into your spiced cheese mixture until incorporated.
Shape and Wrap Your Cheeseball
Now lay a large piece of cling wrap onto the counter and scoop your cheese mixture into the middle creating as round a shape as possible. If cheese is really soft, like mine, don't worry. Just bring the cling wrap up as you shape the cheese and twist to close. Use your fingers to smooth the top.
Place ball in the fridge and let chill at least an hour, but overnight is even better for a richer sun dried tomato flavor.
Pecan Coated Cheese Ball
Chop your pecans or use a little Nut Grinder like this one. My kids LOVE to grind the pecans!
Once your cheeseball is set, remove from fridge and unwrap top. Reshape as needed while pressing the gluten free cheeseball into the chopped pecans. Make sure to coat completely.
NUT ALLERGY ALERT: If you have someone with a nut allergy, great alternatives are sunflower seeds, roasted pepitas, or toasted pine nuts.
Plate Your Sun Dried Tomato Cheeseball
After you've coated the gluten free cheese ball with nuts or alternatives, it's time to serve it up! Typically a cheeseball is served with crackers and I recommend the following gluten free crackers:
- Artisan Nut Thins with Flax Seeds {shown}
- Simple Mills Rosemary and Sea Salt Crackers
- Mary's Gone Crackers Real Thin Sea Salt
- KETO Option – Whisps Cheese Crisps
Do you have a favorite gluten free cracker you'd recommend? I'd love to try it! Let me know in the comments.
Don't Forget the Veggies
But veggies are always best and this sun dried tomato cheeseball makes a delicious veggie dip!
Who needs a cracker when it tastes this good on cucumbers!?
Another Way to Serve this Cheeseball
Cheese is must have on a grazing table. And this sun dried tomato cheeseball had the perfect orangey hue to blend with this Easter Carrot Charcuterie Board.
The soft nature of cream cheese makes it perfect for molding and large cookie cutters make a perfect themed serving “bowl” when the bottom is wrapped tightly with press and seal.
