February: Woodland Party
I interviewed the very talented Pamela Rust of Pamela Susan who brings us a darling woodland themed party to feature!
BRI: Who is the star of this show?
PAMELA: It’s my daughter’s 5-year birthday party. I chose a woodland animal theme because my little girl is obsessed with foxes and all things woodland.
The girls all ready to party it up!
BRI: What was your favorite element of the party?
PAMELA: I loved watching the girls dance around while wearing their woodland masks after sprinkling “Magic Fairy Glitter” on each of them!
Here's a close up of the homemade woodland animal masks. Or similar ready-made masks.
BRI: What was on your menu?
PAMELA: We kept it very simple — cucumber sandwiches, fruit with dip, then cake, cupcakes, and ice cream.
I used our favorite buttercream recipe for the frosting.
BRI: Are there any other details you’d like to share?
PAMELA: I was really pleased how this party played out — I already owned the plates and was pleased with how simple it was to put together. Here are some close-ups of the table.
I was so excited for her to see these little guys. Bits o' scrap paper, glitter, and wool roving helped turn this itty bitty raccoon, fox, and hedgehog into true party animals!
The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel game was a hit and all they needed to entertain themselves.

BRI: We need to know where you got a few key elements for this woodland party!

Source list:
- Cupcake frosting recipe: Of course I used our favorite buttercream recipe for the frosting. Never tried it?! You gotta give it a shot. You can thank me later. The recipe calls for whipping cream which creates the most satisfying texture.
- Fox plates: I already owned these lovelies from Anthropologie
- Little animal figures: I purchased at a local farm store
- Woodland Animal Masks: I made the masks {I told you she’s super talented!} here's a link to a similar pattern! Or some ready-made masks if you’re not inclined to DIY a sewing project!
- Woodland strategy game: Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game. Cute, cute strategy game perfect for children 3-6 years old.
- Birthday banner: Pamela made this in her “spare time” with fabric scraps, but included a tutorial to a similar banner. Or order a similar custom banner on Etsy.
Woodland cake birthday wish
How I love my little girl! Cannot believe she is five. I'm so grateful for her and the joy and spunk she adds to our lives.
Feature Summary
BRI: What I love about this Woodland party is its simplicity. The table was beautiful and the girls obviously enjoyed themselves. Pamela didn't feel the need to transform the entire house, nor was it necessary. Choose a few key places in your home or venue and make them the focal point. Keeping the guest list small also allowed Pamela to create something special for each guest. A personal party favor, like the handmade masks, is something the children can enjoy long after the party. By keeping things intimate, when possible, the quality of the party can increase for the same money. Sometimes even less! When you are a talented artist and crafter like Pamela, you can DIY for the party and that definitely saves money. But when you're like me, only marginally talented in the crafting department, you need to shop early to find great things {on sale of course} instead!

I hope you enjoyed our very first Feature Friday and hope you come back and check out real parties done by real people every month!
