Select Your Large Decorative Christmas Items
The largest items tend to be a focal point, they add height, depth, or balance the arrangement. This Christmas Tree sign {similar} gives the table display the height it needs for a tall blank wall. {as an aside, I think I need some shiplap or something!}
The next item is this birch bark wreath {similar} that frames a couple gnomes. Now that it's been up for a few days I think it needs snowflakes hanging from the inside – so if you go ahead with something like this – think about a few snowflakes.
Repeated Gnomes
A fabulous way to tie any display or room together is with repeated elements. Whether it's a shape, texture, color, or in this case…..a gnome. The largest gnome is front and center seated comfortably on a toadstool cake stand.
Elevating him off the table allows his legs to dangle – which is one of his cutest features, besides his buffalo check hat! Keep an eye out at Hobby Lobby and Home Goods for some great buys on darling gnomes! Or check Amazon for a similar style.
Buy Some Make Some Gnomes
Then off to the side we have a couple more gnomies chillin' in a birch bark faux candle. Keep things interesting using different sized gnomes.
He's seriously so easy I made 20 of them last year as as neighbor gifts! And isn't this “Gnome for the Holidays” sign so cute from Festive Fetti? I turned it into gift tags and I'll bet if you ask her nicely, she'll do the same for you.
Gnome Serving Platter
Another Home Goods find, this serving tray is meant for appetizers and toothpicks in the mushroom! {eek too cute!} This version is almost identical. I plan to set out goodies when we have guests like those chocolate chip cookies at the hostess desk at my favorite hotel!
Oh and did I mention I placed the platter inside a plain green wreath? This is my FAVORITE new Christmas table decorating trick. You can use it on a serving table for a food tray on a cake plate, as the base of a table centerpiece, or as entry table Christmas decoration.
Add Some Details
With a woodland theme going strong the hedgehogs seemed a fitting choice. Not only are they darling, they are at home with the greenery, wood, pinecones, and birch bark. You could use more mini gnomes but the hedgehogs add interest and break it up nicely.
Woodland Accessories
To truly finish it off successfully you need to fill in the gaps with smaller decor that adds texture and color. The bottle brush trees {Dollar Tree} do just that in the green and white versions.
A few well placed ornaments remind us of the season and repeat the red across the Christmas entry table.
For our final repeating element add some birch bark candles in differing heights and create a little vignette on either side of your table focal point.
How To Style It JUST Right
Use similar pieces, but DON'T make them identical, especially with a nature inspired scheme. You'll notice there are:
3 candles on the right and 2 on the left – because the hedgehog is elevated and took the place of the tallest candle
3 white trees – 2 tall, 1 short
3 red striped ornaments
1 hedgehog but different poses
The same piece – MIXED UP – and displayed slightly different. Arrange them based on height, and visual weight.
I hope you've been inspired to add a very gnomes to your holiday decor this year and maybe even to your entry table Christmas decorating! It's a lovely warm welcome for any visitor and they're sure to put a smile on your face! Stay tuned for more gnomes in the future. I'm determined to become a crazy Christmas gnome lady! But the collection needs another year to grow.
If you do add any gnomes or try making our tutorial I'd really love to see it! Let me know by tagging @partieswithacause on Facebook and Instagram. Then…
