Buddy the Elf Christmas Decorations Inspired by the Movie

Elf Christmas Decorations are so much fun for the holidays, especially if we're talking Buddy the Elf you know, the Elf Movie Decorations!? Elf the movie has quickly become a family favorite and using it as a Christmas party theme gives you a wide range of options.

Today we're going to explore a dining table, Christmas tree, and side table decked out Elf style, inspired by the movie.

Buddy the Elf Christmas Table Decorations

Are You Ready for an Elf Christmas?

Buddy the Elf can hardly stand his excitement for all things Christmas. In fact one of the elf mottos is to:

“Treat EVERY day like Christmas.”

– Elves at North Pole, Elf the Movie

So let's start with decorating a Christmas tree worthy of Santa's elves! You'll need help from children to cut the snowflakes and make white paper chains. Use all those mismatched ornaments and school treasures that come home each year for a very homey feel.

Elf Christmas Sideboard Decor

Christmas sideboard decorated with gingerbread houses, frosty trees, and festive signs

I thought maybe we could make gingerbread houses, and eat cookie dough, and go ice skating….and maybe even hold hands.”

– Buddy the Elf

I started decorating the sideboard by adding frosty trees and lots of gingerbread house decorations. I also used my tiered tray to add a mini hot chocolate bar to warm up from the ice skating. And you can certainly eat some cookie dough after dinner! {Check out the Elf Spaghetti!} Then snuggle up and watch the movie, and maybe even hold hands.

Buddy the Elf has the perfect Christmas date night all ready for you. Are YOU ready for it?

Buddy the Elf Christmas Tablescape

“Then I traveled through the seven levels of the candy cane forest, past the sea of swirly and twirly gumdrops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.”

– Buddy the Elf

For the tablescape I really wanted to invoke Buddy's travels through the 7 levels of the “candy cane forest” with the candy cane table runner.

Then, I used wrapping paper with peppermint candies to represent the “swirly twirly gumdrops” as a larger runner the length of the table and hanging down off both sides. I know it's the wrong candy but they look quite swirly AND twirly to me. 😜

Elf Christmas Centerpiece Decoration

Buddy the Elf Christmas Table Centerpiece

I kept the centerpiece simple arranged a pine garland in a long low box with white branches and glittery ornaments. Then I topped it off with a fun Elf arrangement I picked up at the Utah Festival of Trees. I love the whimsical feel of the upside-down elf feet, curly picks, and bells.

It actually reminds me a bit of the Jack-in-the-boxes that Buddy the Elf tests in the North Pole workshop. I love his reaction to the “pop” and my kids laugh every time we watch this scene.

To finish up the centerpiece I added an ornament stack to each side for some additional height. I love that the top ornament is pointy like an Elf hat and shoes!

Buddy the Elf Place Setting Decor

You always want to start your place settings with a base of some kind. It can be a charger, placemat, scrapbook paper, etc. Then layer your plates on top of that.

I chose gold chargers and gold cutlery as my base then built up with these cute elf dessert plates that I found at Walmart of all places! {so keep a lookout wherever you go!}

They fit perfectly with the Christmas tree dinner plates in fun happy colors. The trees make me think of Central Park and all the lighted trees Buddy the Elf likes to visit.

Next, you want to add cups and napkins. I chose glass flutes for sparkling cider and a “Believe” hot beverage cup for cocoa or tea with dessert. To keep the table looking festive I slipped a candy cane into each flute until we sat down to dinner. The solid red napkins felt a little boring so I folded over the top edge and layered another brightly colored napkin {that matches the wrapping paper runner} inside.

I also made sure we had access to all four main food groups….

“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.”

CANDY

You've gotta appreciate Buddy's love of sugar as it seems to come naturally! Each place setting also contains a holiday themed baking cup with gummy Santas, candy corns, and peppermint sticks. AND….and mini bottle of syrup I found in-store at Target but they don't sell online.

I also added a fun little taxi with another great Elf Movie quote:

“Look out! The yellow ones don't stop!”

We used our personal candy stashes to augment this amazing Buddy the Elf spaghetti dessert. Complete with “noodles”, syrup, and Pop Tarts! Click on the image to get the full recipe.

You can also pick up this fun taxi printable in the shop – and even write names on them for use as a place card if you'd like.

Candy Corns

CANDY CORNS

In addition to the personal candy I added an apothecary vase full of candy corns to the table with a small pile of snowballs for an after dinner snowball fight!

CANDY CANES AND… SYRUP

If you're wondering why, there's so much syrup, you must not have seen the movie! What does Buddy the Elf put on everything? Maple syrup of course! A gingerbread man shaped syrup bottle sits at the opposite end with a matching pile of snowballs.

You can get the confetti here at Festive Fetti

And the final piece of Elf Decor for our movie party table is this custom Buddy the Elf confetti from my friend Brenda at Festive Fetti! How fun is this!? I used it to sprinkle up and down the table runner on either side of the centerpiece.
