Buffalo Chicken Dip in the Oven, a Healthier Recipe

Making this Buffalo chicken dip oven recipe is a must have for game day! But it's such an Easy Buffalo Chicken recipe that you can whip up a batch and warm it in the crock pot too. Game Day appetizers are notoriously BAD for you. High in fat, salt, and calories with not a lot of nutrition in return. This Healthy Buffalo chicken dip uses Greek Yogurt and low-fat cram cheese to create a delicious healthier twist on an appetizer favorite. You might just end up making it a lot more often!

And because there's zero carbs, it's perfect for those Keto friends too!

Ingredients for Buffalo Chicken Dip

Ingredients for Buffalo chicken dip in oven

You only need a few ingredients for this deliciously creamy appetizer.

  • Shredded chicken
  • Low-Fat Neufchatel Cream Cheese {sub Kite Hill dairy free if desired}
  • Fat-Free Greek Yogurt
  • Ranch Dressing Seasoning Packet
  • Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Sauce
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
  • Blue cheese crumbles

Buffalo Chicken Dip Rotisserie Chicken

rotisserie chicken for buffalo chicken dip recipe

I love using rotisserie chicken for my shredded chicken recipes and while a can of “Costco” chicken works fine for this recipe, I highly recommend using either a couple of shredded chicken breasts or the meat from a rotisserie chicken.

Stick with the white meat and toss the skin if you're trying to lower the fat the content of this notoriously high fat dish.

Low Fat Cream Cheese

Cream cheese and chicken for buffalo chicken dip

This Buffalo chicken dip oven recipe is healthier but it's not diet food! The creamy goodness stems from the Neufchatel cream cheese you mix into the chicken after it softens.

If you're trying to reduce the amount of dairy you can substitute the cream cheese for a non-dairy version like the Kite Hill Almond cream cheese and it's still really amazing! I haven't yet come up with a completely non-dairy option as there's a lot of cheese and let's face it, there's just no cheese alternative that's going to be as good.

So unless you're vegan, I think this recipe is one that is worth the dairy! I should note that this dip doesn't give me a stomachache like most creamy things do. I think that's because of the reduced milk fats in the Neufchatel and Greek yogurt. But try it out and see how it works for you.

Mix Up Your Buffalo Chicken Dip Oven Recipe

Mixed up buffalo chicken dip recipe

Mix together the Ranch dressing mix and Greek yogurt then toss it in with the Frank's Red Hot and stir. Add in about half the shredded cheese and fold that in. Then spread it onto a small baking dish and bake 20 minutes until bubbly.

Buffalo Chicken Dip with Ranch Dressing: the buffalo wing purists will argue that Ranch dressing should not be uttered in the same sentence as buffalo chicken, let alone be included in the recipe. BUT it gives it such a nice depth of flavor that I'm willing to break the rules. I've tried this recipe with blue cheese dressing instead and it was WAY too strong.

So if your crowd is offended at the Ranch, leave it out. Just stir in the plain Greek Yogurt with seasoning salt, a little parsley, dill, and onion seasoning. Then call it a day! But I'd secretly add it in while they're not looking if it were me!

Oven Recipe Buffalo Chicken Dip

Cheesey buffalo chicken dip in oven recipe

This recipe is super easy to bake in the oven and makes for a nice firm layer of melted cheese over the gooey dip inside. You can also use this same recipe and throw it in a crock pot. You lose the crispy top layer but it all gets melty and creamy in the end so really it's all about what's easiest for you as the hostess. {or the guest} And the crock pot does help keep it warm all party long.

This Healthy Buffalo Chicken Dip is seriously my favorite and because we make it hardly spicy at all the whole family enjoys it with me. You die hards can add as much buffalo sauce as you'd like. But I like being able to actually taste my food. Your tastebuds will thank me!
